Should you be fortunate to be on a wi-fi - your phone calls are absolutely free.
Tested - When we made a 17 minute phone call via Facebook to Blackberry Messenger in another country, the data used was only 1.2 meg. This is low cost of R0.22 or $0.02 with the South African standard rate of R0.20 or $0.02 per megabyte.
In 1999 it was cheaper to fly from South Africa to Mauritius to download a gig that would take you three days to download. Now we download a gig in 16 minutes. The point is that data is becoming cheaper and wi-fi are available almost everywhere you go example: Restaurants, Malls etc.
Services you can use to make free phone calls are Facebook Messenger, BBM and Google Plus
How to use this service?
Your phone should at least be able to run Facebook
Messenger or you should have Blackberry Messenger installed.
For Facebook you have to search the person you want to
call, go to send message and you will see a little blue phone on your screen if
the person is available.
For Blackberry Messenger you go to the contact and a
phone will appear on the screen.
