One of the world`s best loved fairy tales, The Little Mermaid,
premieres at the Canal Walk Theatre this winter in a spectacular new
family musical by award winning duo, Fred Abrahamse and Marcel Meyer.
Based on the classic tale by the Hans Christian Andersen, this exciting new musical is brought to life on stage with breathtaking sets, magnificent costumes, puppets and memorable songs. This production of The Little Mermaid showcases some of South African finest musical theater talents.
Fleur du Cap award winning actress Jenny Stead stars as the Little Mermaid with Stephen Jubber as the Prince. Stead has won accolades for her performances in plays by Shakespeare, Reza de Wet and Steven Berkoff. Jubber is one of South Africa`s top young talents. He recently starred as the romantic lead in Mamma Mia! Earl Gregory won the Naledi Award as Best Newcomer and played the title role in Pieter Toerien`s production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat as well as the Rum Tum Tugger in the International Touring Production of Cats. Candice van Litesenborgh, who plays the Sea Witch, is another top musical theatre talent. She has been seen as Emma Goldman in the award winning South African premiere of Sondheim`s Assassins, as well as being featured in a string of musicals like Evita, Chess and JC Superstar. Niall Griffin has appeared in several local musicals like Disney`s Beauty and the Beast and received rave reviews in Johannesburg for his recent performance is Jason Robert Brown acclaimed musical, The Last Five Years.
Now in its twelfth year, the annual Canal Walk Theatre is recognised as one of the finest children`s theatre productions in the country."Over 250,000 children have had their first experience of the magic of live theatre at one of our performances," says Canal Walk Shopping Centre Marketing Manager Camilla Lor.
