FIFA presents SABC with mini World Cup trophy |
FIFA says the small token of appreciation is meant for the employees and to the nation for all their hard work and effort.
As official broadcast partner with FIFA, the SABC was responsible for providing signal to fan fests locally and internationally. The SABC flighted more than 290 hours of broadcasting on television and radio. Throughout the tournament the broadcaster maintained an enviable 73% market share.
"We are very proud of this, even though it is only a symbol. It represents an acknowledgment of the efforts of SABC employees by FIFA," says SABC CEO, Solly Mokoetle.
The SABC has emerged from the first quarter of this financial year in the black. The broadcaster can now add R100 million to its profit column. Last week, Mokoetle said the SABC has also attracted a bigger audience.
