Cape Epic, Tesselaarsdal, Western Cape, South Africa

.
.

Today's leg of the Cape Epic was in Tesselaarsdal, close to Cape Agulhas, the most Southern Tip of Africa.

A nice little enthusiastic crowd  boost the cyclist's energy as the South African team and guest team's from Switzerland, Spain, Brazil and more passes by.

When did the Cape Epic Western Cape start?

2004 its inaugural year, the Absa Cape Epic immediately attracted some of the biggest names in the sport, including stage race supremo Karl Platt. The German teamed up with Namibian legend Mannie Heymans, himself one of the world’s top marathoners at the time. Platt and Heymans (Team GT Africa) saw off a spirited challenge from Kenyans David Kinjah and Davidson Kamau to win six of the eight stages. Their dominance eventually took them home with an overall lead of 20 minutes.

In 2004 the route from Knysna to Stellenbosch covered 788km with 17 380m of vertical gain over that distance. 550 riders took part and 21% of those were international competitors from 20 countries.

How to enter the Western Cape Epic?

The first step to completing the Absa Cape Epic is to secure an entry. The Absa Cape Epic is extremely popular and has been oversubscribed every year since inception. The Early Bird entries and the South African and international lotteries are by far the most common methods to secure an entry.

Historically, Early Bird entries have sold out within minutes while the lotteries are many times oversubscribed.

There are, however, a few ways to guarantee a spot in the race if you miss out on the Early Bird or lottery process. Simply enter via one of our charities (at a premium) or join the volunteer program to get a feel for the event and guarantee an entry for the following year.
