What to do in Hermanus

Hermanus - The little fishing town that became a well known and popular tourist destination in the Western Cape.  The perfect  weekend getaway for the family or the tourist, Hermanus is only an hour and a half away from Cape Town. There are two routes you can drive to Hermanus. The scenic mountain route via Gordons Bay or the N2 that takes you through the forest's of Grabouw where you can view thousands upon thousands hectares of pine trees, apple and pear treas.

Well know for the Whale watching, Hermanus offer Saturday markets where you can buy local cheese, olives, beer and artwork. The markets are child friendly and well organized.

Fisherhaven lagoon offers a great chance to catch Steenbras of up to 20kg. The best time of the month would be before full moon.

Prawns are the favorite bait, but you can buy some white mussels at the local fish shops, should you not have a prawn pump.

At Standford, (about twenty minutes from Hermanus) you can get rid of the city stress by doing horse riding and visit the local antique shops. Birkenhead beer is also made and sold in this region and  for the beer enthusiast this is the perfect stop.

Tesselaarsdal is on the outskirts of Hermanus where you can buy local cheeses, proteas, olives and honey. Friendly sheep, pig and dairy farmers will certainly greet you on the way. It's about half hours drive and be aware that there are road works, so the chances are that there will be a 10 minute wait.
