About Cape Town

Also known as the ‘Mother City’ is not only known for its picturesque mountains and coastlines but also for its cultural diversity. It is South Africa’s second largest city and houses the National Parliament.

The region has an estimated population of just under 4 million. The main airport is the Cape Town International airport.

Cape Town is dominated by the Cape Peninsula and Boland mountain ranges which are home to the biologically diverse Fynbos vegetation. The climate is Mediterranean with mild, wet winters and dry, moderately warm summers.

Cape Town (Afrikaans: Kaapstad; Xhosa: iKapa) is the second-most populated city in South Africa after Johannesburg, and the provincial capital and primecity of the Western Cape. As the seat of the National Parliament, it is also the legislative capital of the country. It forms part of the City of Cape Town metropolaton.The city is famous for its harbour as well as its natural setting in the Cape Floral Kingdom as well as for such well-known landmarks as Table Mountain and Cape Point. Cape Town is also Africa's most popular tourist destination. 

Located on the shore of Table Bay, Cape Town was originally developed by the Dutch Eest Indian Company as a victualling (supply) station for Dutch ships sailing to Eastern Africa, India, and the Far East. Jan van Riebeeck's arrival on 6 April 1652 established the first permanent European settlement in South Africa. Cape Town quickly outgrew its original purpose as the first European outpost at the Castle of Good Hope becoming the economic and cultural hub of the Cape Good Until the Witwatersrand Gold Rush and the development of Johannesburg, Cape Town was the largest city in South Africa. Today it is one of the most multicultural cities in the world, reflecting its role as a major destination for immigrants and expatriates to South Africa. As of 2011 the metropolitan region had an estimated population of 3.74 million. 
The city was named the World Design Capital for 2014 by the International Council of Societies of Industrial Design. 

Mike and the Mechanics - Grant West Arena - Cape Town

Sun International and Famous Concerts proudly announce Mike and the Mechanics` performances in SA, celebrating twenty-five years of the group`s massive hit, `The Living Years`. These legendary English rockers have topped charts over the years with many other huge hits also, including `All I Need Is a Miracle`, `Word of Mouth`, `Looking Back (Over my Shoulder)` and `Beggar on a Beach of Gold`, to which great songs SA audiences will be treated. Mike and the Mechanics have long enjoyed a reputation as a most-respected melodic contemporary rock band. After the untimely death of vocalist Paul Young, the group re-emerged, Mike Rutherford started writing again, resulting in a new generation Mike and The Mechanics, featuring two new faces in the vocal department. Come be part of this memorable 25th anniversary celebration! A compassionate side - effect of the concerts is that Mike and the Mechanics have partnered with Sun International, Famous Concerts and Harley-Davidson to support the M-Net Naledi Children`s Literacy Project. Concert-goers are asked to bring along a children`s book to drop in the M-Net Cares Box at each of the concert venues. Additionally, a portion of ticket sales will go towards helping M-Net Cares build more children`s libraries.
