Dayyaan Galiem - Cape Town's own Wonder Kid!

Wonder Kid Dayyaan Galiem has accomplished what many cricketers dreams of, 9 Wickets and only giving away 1 run. ( 9/1)

Then, to show his versatility, Dayyaan Galiem of Rondebosch Boys’ High smacked a near double-century the same day against the same team.

Dayyaan turned 15 on January 2.

On Saturday, he swept aside DF Malan High’s batting line-up, taking nine wickets in seven overs, conceding just one run. There were no hat-tricks or wickets off consecutive balls.

DF Malan were all out for 18 runs, and RBH easily passed their total.

With the game having ended early because of Dayyaan’s feat, the two sides agreed to play a T20 match, and he turned his hand to the willow, scoring 196 not out off just 76 balls.

Rondebosch reached 266/2, and DF Malan were bowled out cheaply for 54 – this time without Dayyaan, to give other Rondebosch bowlers a chance.

Rondebosch coach Rob Dalrymple confirmed today that Dayyaan’s performance was “the best in recorded history at the school”, although full records were not all available since the school was founded in 1897.

Dalrymple said that if he remembered correctly, in the 1980s a bowler got all 10 wickets in an innings. It was the under-14A v Bishops, and he took 10 for 34.

Dayyaan has already played for the school’s first team, and for WP under-19, for whom he hit 102 not out, after batting No 8 a fortnight ago.

“He’s an incredibly talented young man. Not just his performance but his thought process, which I believe is what makes him so successful. At 15 he is exceptionally mature and thinks about his game plan and execution and if he can keep that up then I’m sure he’ll go far,” said Dalrymple.

Yesterday, during practice, Dayyaan said that while on the pitch he tried to stay focused on the game.

“Just keep your head and don’t do anything stupid is what I tell myself.”
